About the position

The Chief Estimator at R. C. Stevens Construction Company is a pivotal role responsible for leading the estimating team in preparing competitive bids for commercial construction projects. This position requires a strong focus on client engagement, attention to detail, and the ability to analyze and interpret complex information to establish project timelines and budgets. The Chief Estimator will collaborate closely with Project Managers and subcontractors to ensure seamless project execution and maintain strong relationships with clients and partners.

Responsibilities

• Analyze, compare, and interpret information to establish project timelines and budgets.
• Lead a team of estimators to prepare competitive bids using expertise in lump-sum and time & material.
• Solicit subcontractor bids, distribute plans to qualified bidders, and follow up on bids.
• Review blueprints, specifications, and proposals to estimate time, costs, and labor for construction projects.
• Demonstrate exceptional client and subcontractor relationship management throughout multiple projects.
• Prepare project budgets and assign cost codes to subcontract and purchase orders.
• Engage in discussions and reach agreements with subcontractors and suppliers.
• Ensure consistent communication with vendors and subcontractors during the bidding process.
• Communicate professionally with clients, departments, and external partners to achieve project objectives.

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in building construction, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or a related discipline is preferred.
• Minimum of 10 years prior experience in a Lead Estimating position in the commercial construction industry.
• Strong knowledge of Divisions 2 through 16 and quantity takeoff experience in relevant divisions.
• Conceptual estimating experience preferred.
• Advanced skills in Bluebeam Revu and proficiency in Sage Timberline estimating software are highly preferred.
• Experience in collaborating with clients and architects during initial project phases.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience with Pantera bid management or BuildingConnected software.
• Ability to visualize and fill in gaps from schematic or conceptual drawings.
