About the position
The Chief Estimator will lead the estimating team in delivering accurate and competitive estimates for a variety of construction projects. This role is critical in ensuring project success through effective leadership, standardized estimating procedures, and collaboration with internal teams. The Chief Estimator will oversee the entire estimating process, analyze project specifications, and prepare detailed estimates while managing project risks and maintaining historical cost data.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the estimating team, providing leadership, coaching, and mentorship.
- Develop and implement standardized estimating procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Oversee the estimating process for all projects from pre-construction to final bid preparation.
- Analyze project plans and specifications to ensure a complete understanding of scope and requirements.
- Prepare detailed and accurate estimates considering all project costs.
- Identify and manage project risks, developing strategies to mitigate their impact.
- Maintain and manage historical cost data to inform future estimates.
- Utilize advanced estimating software for quantity takeoffs and cost breakdowns.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure estimates align with project goals.
- Stay current on industry trends and best practices to improve estimating efficiency.
- Prepare and present estimates to clients in a clear and professional manner.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of estimating practices.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or a related field (preferred).
- Minimum of 10+ years of experience in construction estimating.
- Proven track record of success in leading estimating teams.
- Expertise in Bid-Build and Conceptual Design Development project delivery methods.
- In-depth knowledge of construction costs, materials, labor rates, and industry standards.
- Proficiency in advanced construction estimating software (e.g., OnCenter, D4, MS Suite).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Proven leadership qualities with the ability to motivate and mentor a team.
