About the position

The Chief External Officer (CXO) at Coney Island Preparatory Public Charter School plays a pivotal role in driving the organization's mission of educational equity and choice for all students. This position focuses on managing external relationships, enhancing postsecondary success, and leading marketing and fundraising efforts. The CXO will work closely with the CEO and lead a team dedicated to fostering partnerships that support the school's strategic objectives and ensure a first-class experience for scholars and their families.

Responsibilities

  • Lead with a systems orientation to drive long-term, sustainable results aligned with the school's vision and mission.
  • Manage the Postsecondary Team and Development & External Affairs teams towards an integrated strategy for development and external affairs.
  • Codify systems to ensure best practices are implemented across the department, emphasizing standard operating procedures.
  • Analyze internal and external data to foster innovation in postsecondary success, fundraising, and marketing efforts.
  • Refine resource development systems to maximize efficacy and impact.
  • Own the long-term strategic plan and annual priority-setting for the organization.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to support effective communications and leverage media opportunities.
  • Drive the organization's external narrative and ensure schools have the resources to fulfill the mission.
  • Set vision, strategy, outcomes, and goals for college acceptance and readiness.
  • Develop systems to catalyze fundraising outcomes, aiming to increase annual fundraising from $1.3M to $2M+ over three years.
  • Establish new institutional giving partnerships and refine individual giving systems for financial sustainability.
  • Serve as a thought partner to the CEO, evaluating decisions for immediate and long-term impact.
  • Employ a data-driven approach to decision-making and outcomes management.
  • Manage relationships with key stakeholders to propel the mission forward.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders to set and meet ambitious goals for scholars, families, and staff.
  • Partner with the CFO to manage financial resources and meet fundraising goals.
  • Work with the COO to build strategic community partnerships and cultivate relationships with elected officials.
  • Ensure academic programs prepare scholars for college and that communications center their voices.
  • Report on personnel and identify opportunities for community support with the Chief Talent & Equity Officer.
  • Establish accountability systems with peers through planning processes.
  • Build trust-based relationships across organizational layers to achieve goals.
  • Develop talent by managing and coaching a team impacting external partnerships.
  • Design and deliver professional development for team members.
  • Foster collaboration within and across departments to ensure alignment as one school.
  • Model organizational values and support team members' growth and development.
  • Lead a diverse, equitable, and inclusive team through strengths-based coaching.

Requirements

  • Passion for education and dedication to Coney Island Prep's mission.
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 10 years of professional experience in external affairs, fundraising, and/or college access and alumni support; K-12 organizational leadership experience preferred.
  • Background in facilitating and implementing DEIJ discussions and practices.
  • Self-reflective and open to feedback, with a desire to grow and strive for excellence.
  • Robust long-term project management skills and a systems orientation to problem-solving.
  • Strong data collection, analysis, and presentation skills.
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills and ability to coach others.
  • Strong change management skills and ability to influence decision-making among diverse parties.
  • Team-first collaborator and communicator.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Proficient Excel skills including familiarity with formulas.
