About the position

Mass Audubon is seeking a Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) to oversee all core administrative, financial, human resource, facilities, and IT systems. The CFAO will report to the President and CEO and will partner with senior leadership to implement strategic initiatives that align with the organization's Action Agenda, which addresses critical conservation challenges such as climate change and biodiversity loss. This role requires adaptability in a dynamic environment and involves supervising multiple departments while ensuring compliance with government contracts and private grants.

Responsibilities

  • Build, implement, and manage financial systems, long-range financial planning, budgets, and capital spending plans.
  • Oversee sound accounting practices, compliance with relevant accounting standards and controls.
  • Lead annual budgeting and financial planning to support effective management and decision making by the executive team.
  • Manage risk exposure, including insurance, physical safety practices, and capital investments.
  • Develop systems and processes from the ground up including budget/planning and Board reporting.
  • Provide financial and operational reporting/analysis supporting public disclosure and decision-making on initiatives and capital projects.
  • Provide leadership to administrative operations for the mailroom, front desk, and headquarters maintenance.
  • Ensure the IT team supports organizational goals and identify technology solutions that advance these goals.
  • Support the HR team in building systems that enhance recruiting, onboarding, and employee satisfaction.
  • Develop strong working relationships with the Governing Board and secure approval for strategic initiatives.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in Business, Management, or Finance.
  • 15+ years of experience in finance and administration with significant experience managing a large finance and/or operations team.
  • Strong analytical and financial modeling skills, knowledge of GAAP for nonprofits, and government contract regulations.
  • Ability to be a strategic and operational thought partner to the President and CEO.
  • Demonstrated ability to analyze and report on financial data to inform decision-making and strategy.
  • Knowledge of human resources best practices and experience in HR policy development.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary range of $230,000-$270,000 per year based on experience and qualifications.
