About the position

The Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) at Columbia University is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial and administrative operations of Columbia College. Reporting directly to the Dean, the CFAO will manage a substantial operating budget of nearly $500 million, ensuring effective resource allocation and strategic planning to support the College's mission. This position requires a forward-thinking leader who will foster collaboration across various functional units, enhance operational efficiency, and promote a culture of fiscal responsibility and inclusivity within the College community.

Responsibilities

  • Develop long-range financial forecasts and strategic budget planning.
  • Build a culture of fiscal responsibility and accountability at the College.
  • Provide financial consulting and strategic support to the Dean and leadership team.
  • Promote an inclusive community with exceptional standards for diversity and inclusion in human resources.
  • Set and direct technology strategy for the College's IT infrastructure and data reporting needs.
  • Lead policy development and strategic planning for finance and administrative functions.
  • Create a culture of collaborative partnership across teams and functional units.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable policies and practices in finance and administration.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in business, public policy, or a related field.
  • A minimum of 10 years of related experience in financial and operational leadership roles.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of financial planning and modeling linked to performance and strategic planning.
  • Experience managing human resources, information technology, and facilities operations functions in complex organizations.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to cultivate workplace teams committed to transparency.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in higher education or a non-profit environment.
  • Understanding of the academic mission and budget/resource planning in higher education institutions.
