About the position

The Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CAO) at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities is responsible for the strategic allocation of human and capital resources to support the School of Nursing's tri-mission. This role encompasses leadership in finance, operations, information technology, and facilities, ensuring these areas align with the academic, research, and clinical practice missions of the School. The CAO will foster collaborative relationships within the School and the broader University community, promoting a culture of cooperation and support.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the Chief Financial Manager for the School of Nursing and ensure fiscal integrity and sound financial planning.
  • Provide leadership and accountability for business unit budgets, capital plans, and revenue/expense forecasts.
  • Represent the School of Nursing to central administration and other University units on budgetary and fiscal matters.
  • Oversee budget development, forecasting, and long-term financial planning, ensuring alignment with the School's strategic goals.
  • Collaborate with the Finance Manager and School leadership in providing overall financial leadership and budget planning.
  • Develop tools to evaluate the School's financial health and lead studies for new initiatives.
  • Coordinate the communication of University financial policies and procedures.
  • Lead financial studies for new initiatives and business plans.
  • Ensure operational practices comply with applicable policies, laws, and standards of practice.
  • Evaluate and recommend improvements for efficiency and effectiveness of all systems and services.
  • Advise on salary decisions and conduct environmental scans for marketplace competitiveness.
  • Lead the transition to the University model for service delivery and operational workflows.
  • Develop and lead a School-wide information delivery strategy related to finance and operations.
  • Oversee relationships with technology and facilities management, leading capital projects and long-term facility planning.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration.
  • Minimum of 12 years relevant experience, including three years of recent administrative and fiscal experience in an academic setting.
  • Five years of relevant work experience as a professional administrator in a large, complex organization.
  • Three years of direct accounting/budget management experience.
  • Three years of supervisory experience with significant leadership experience.

Nice-to-haves

  • Business-related master's degree/MBA/professional doctoral degree.
  • Administrative experience at the University of Minnesota.
  • Accounting experience.
  • Experience with data information sources and systems, preferably PeopleSoft EFS.
  • Experience leading significant change within a large organization.
