About the position

The Chief Financial & Administrative Officer (CFAO) at Boston Children's Museum serves as a strategic partner to the President & CEO, overseeing the museum's financial, operational, and support functions. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate financial reporting, managing the annual budget, and advocating for the museum's mission and values. The CFAO is a key member of the Executive Team and the Senior Leadership Team, responsible for guiding the museum's financial health and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Develop the annual operating budget in consultation with the Museum management team and the Board of Trustees' Finance Committee.
  • Oversee departmental and divisional expenditures to ensure conformity with the budget and provide monthly reports of expenditures to departments.
  • Oversee the annual audit and serve as the Museum's chief compliance and risk management officer.
  • Manage the Museum's endowment and investment portfolio with the Board Treasurer and Finance Committee.
  • Recommend actions related to all financial matters of the Museum.
  • Support Board Committees on Finance, Investment, and Audit.
  • Oversee all building services and maintenance, ensuring the facility is safe, clean, and highly functioning.
  • Review and approve all major equipment purchases, building projects, and requests.
  • Oversee the Museum's tenant operation, ensuring tenant spaces are leased, maintained, and marketed appropriately.
  • Oversee the Museum's Senior Director of HR and serve as staff liaison to Board HR development of job descriptions, hiring procedures, and staff management.
  • Collaborate with HR on compensation matters and engage compensation studies as needed.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree with CPA preferred.
  • 10-15 years of leadership experience.
  • Well-developed accounting and financial analytical skills.
  • Experience with non-profit accounting and capital campaigns is a plus.
  • Direct experience in overseeing human resources and facilities management.
