About the position

The Chief Financial and Administrative Officer (CFAO) at Rutgers Cancer Institute of Jersey plays a pivotal role in the executive leadership team, overseeing financial and administrative operations. This position is responsible for strategic financial planning, budget development, and ensuring fiscal solvency while enhancing the research and outreach environment of the cancer center. The CFAO collaborates with various stakeholders to optimize business development opportunities and represents the institute in governance and decision-making processes.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, direct, conduct, and implement business activities of the Cancer Center across Rutgers University and partners.
  • Develop the annual operating budget for the Cancer Center, coordinating with Rutgers and RWJBH operations.
  • Direct and oversee all aspects of finance and accounting for the Rutgers Cancer Institute, aligning financial management with strategic objectives.
  • Ensure credibility of financial reports and provide timely analyses of budgets and financial trends.
  • Develop strategies to measure and enhance productivity and financial performance of departments and initiatives.
  • Conduct strategic financial planning for center-wide initiatives and analyze activities to determine progress toward goals.
  • Advise on the financial impact of strategic plans and new business development.
  • Design and oversee financial business models with external partners.
  • Provide recommendations to enhance financial performance and leverage business opportunities.
  • Oversee workforce planning and performance of cancer center staff and faculty.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in a related field (e.g., business, finance, healthcare administration).
  • Fifteen (15) years of progressively responsible management experience in a senior-level financial administration role, preferably within an academic research setting.
  • Significant strategic planning/management, finance, and administrative experience in the research arena.
  • Prior fiscal management experience with complex funding sources, including federal and state grants and contracts.
  • Excellent communication skills, both oral and written; strong interpersonal skills; ability to plan and execute organizational change.
  • Proficiency in database and reporting tools such as Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint.
