About the position

The Chief Financial and Operating Officer (CFOO) at the Institute for Women's Policy Research (IWPR) will provide strategic leadership and management of the organization's financial and operational systems. Reporting to the President and CEO, the CFOO will oversee finance, human resources, IT, and compliance, ensuring that IWPR can fulfill its mission and scale its impact. This role requires a strong leadership presence and a commitment to IWPR's values, focusing on high-quality research and organizational growth.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic financial adviser to the President and CEO.
  • Develop and implement organizational systems and processes to maximize efficiency and support growth.
  • Support the implementation of IWPR's strategic plan with a focus on financial sustainability and talent management.
  • Model best practices for IWPR staff through action and behavior.
  • Identify and assess emerging operations gaps and proactively address issues.
  • Build a culture that attracts and retains top talent at IWPR.
  • Lead day-to-day internal operations and resolve issues effectively.
  • Provide hands-on leadership of finance and accounting functions.
  • Oversee hiring, promotion, and termination processes for staff and contractors.
  • Manage vendor relationships and partnerships.
  • Support planning of leadership and staff retreats.

Requirements

  • Master's Degree in business, accounting, or nonprofit management, or equivalent experience/expertise.
  • 10+ years' experience in finance and operations management.
  • Demonstrated strategic financial, budget, and human resource management skills.
  • Experience with technology, systems, and project leadership.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong existing networks and leadership in the field.
  • Proven track record of effectively meeting the needs of a diverse staff.
  • Superior problem-solving, managerial, and interpersonal skills.
  • Judgment and discretion to manage confidential matters.
  • Ability to work strategically and collaboratively across the organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • CPA preferred but not required.
  • Experience in managing teams through organizational growth and change.
