About the position

The Finance Manager position at Twin Cities Co-op Partners is responsible for ensuring that the co-op's finances adhere to accepted accounting principles while providing financial information and analysis to the Board and management. The role involves strategic leadership, budget development, financial reporting, and oversight of financial processes to support the co-op's objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Develop annual budgets for all locations and business units in consultation with the CEO and other stakeholders.
  • Provide overall strategic leadership as a member of the co-op's Leadership Team.
  • Create and analyze quarterly and annual financial statements for all locations.
  • Create and analyze monthly reports for all business units.
  • Manage internal cross-division transfers and accounting practices.
  • Secure appropriate business and worker's compensation insurance for the Co-op.
  • Work with HR Director to select medical/dental self-insurance and monitor claims.
  • Evaluate compensation strategy in collaboration with HR Director.
  • Support contract negotiations with staff unions by providing financial analysis.
  • Manage the Co-op's investments and secure loans as needed, negotiating favorable terms with financial institutions.
  • Ensure timely access to reports and documents for auditors.
  • Prepare end-of-year packet for accountant and coordinate annual close-out.
  • Ensure accurate inventory and update count practices as necessary.
  • Oversee clerking and cash handling for the organization.
  • Work with Store Directors to establish and attain margin and labor goals.
  • Support CEO and directors by creating and analyzing business plans and proformas.
  • Oversee purchase and tracking of all Co-op's fixed assets.
  • Administer the procurement policy and maintain record keeping.
  • Participate in the Co-op's Finance Committee and 401(k) investment committee.
  • Oversee allocation and distribution of patronage refunds and C Share dividends.
  • Maintain accurate owner equity records and ensure timely filing of taxes.
  • Calculate quarterly profit sharing and supervise Finance department staff.
  • Support the development and implementation of co-op wide financial processes.

Requirements

  • CPA or post-secondary education in accounting/finance preferred.
  • Full charge bookkeeping and/or financial management experience in a supervisory capacity required.
  • Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, accounting software, and email required.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to explain financial reports to diverse audiences.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to evaluate and improve accounting systems.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail.
  • Understanding and appreciation for the co-op business model.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Ability to meet commitments and timelines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with diverse cultural backgrounds.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a co-op or similar business model.
  • Familiarity with financial software specific to co-ops.
