About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Coastal Bend College (CBC) is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the institution, ensuring compliance with regulations, and providing financial leadership as a member of the President's Cabinet. The CFO will manage all accounting and financial services functions, develop budgets, and maintain financial integrity across the college's operations.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the development and maintenance of monthly financial statements for the institution and the CBC Foundation.
  • Develop and maintain sound operating procedures to ensure compliance with college policies, state and federal regulations, and GASB standards.
  • Prepare the Annual Financial Report and maintain a sound investment program for college funds.
  • Lead the development of the annual budget process and prepare revenue projections and analysis.
  • Oversee preparation and administration of the College budget, including all funding sources and finances of the Foundation.
  • Develop a system to process payments for all College purchases and ensure timely vendor payments.
  • Conduct bi-weekly verification of payroll and prepare periodic financial analysis of operations.
  • Implement internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure reliability of financial data.
  • Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual reconciliation of payroll, debt service, grants, and investments to the general ledger.
  • Monitor expenditures of grant funds to ensure compliance with funding agencies and college policies.
  • Manage the College's cash flow strategies and direct participation in continuous improvement processes.
  • Develop and deploy training and professional development opportunities for employees in financial systems and compliance.
  • Review and authorize payment of the College's financial obligations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting or Finance required.
  • Eight years of progressively increasing experience in accounting and finance, managing diverse staff responsibilities.
  • Strong technical skills in data analytics, projections, forecasting, and visualization.
  • Strong project and team management skills.
  • Ability to foster teamwork and a positive working environment.
  • Effective public speaking and presentation skills to the Board of Trustees.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance preferred.
  • CPA certification preferred.
  • Experience in Higher Education and non-profit accounting is highly desirable.
  • Grant compliance experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Ellucian Colleague, BankMobile, and SPOL preferred.
