About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at St. Mary's Home for Disabled is responsible for overseeing all finance, accounting, and reporting activities. Reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the CFO will manage the preparation of the annual budget, ensure compliance with federal and state regulations, and provide financial counsel to the board and senior leadership. This role involves supervising various departments, including accounting, payroll, and IT, and requires strong leadership and communication skills.

Responsibilities

  • Prepares and maintains an annual budget.
  • Coordinates the annual budget process and tracks actual performance against the annual budgets.
  • Provides regular feedback and direction to senior staff and department managers regarding budgetary status.
  • Ensures compliance with Federal/State regulations and required annual audits.
  • Files cost reports and works with the audit firm on Form 990 submissions.
  • Provides counsel and support to the CEO and Board of Trustees on financial matters.
  • Develops and implements an internal control system for financial monitoring.
  • Processes or supervises accounts payable and receivable transactions.
  • Reviews daily cash schedule and assists with cash flow forecasting.
  • Oversees monthly bank account reconciliations and general ledger analyses.
  • Manages bi-weekly payroll processing and maintenance of payroll records.
  • Prepares and disseminates monthly financial statements for the Home and Foundation.
  • Manages all insurance plans and policies.
  • Acts as a liaison with investment manager and Foundation Board regarding investments.

Requirements

  • Master's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration required.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of progressive professional accounting experience required.
  • Valid CPA license strongly preferred.
  • Experience working for a nonprofit or healthcare organization strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of finance and accounting practices, including GAAP.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Microsoft Great Plains and KRONOS timekeeping system preferred.
  • Significant experience with allocations of shared costs preferred.
  • Familiarity with US Government Medicaid negotiated indirect rates and methodologies a plus.
  • Familiarity with specialized nonprofit industry accounting practices.
