About the position

Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join our team. The CFO will play a pivotal role in our organization's financial leadership, ensuring that the financial operations align with the mission and goals of the organization. This position is based in Downtown Atlanta, GA, and is an in-office role. The CFO will be responsible for providing monthly financial statements, tracking, and analysis to ensure transparency and accountability within the organization. This includes highlighting the financial strategy of the organization, encompassing performance, goals, and objectives. The CFO will also ensure compliance with audit requirements, grant and donor guidelines, and financial regulations, which is critical for maintaining the trust of stakeholders and the community. In addition to overseeing the financial operations, the CFO will supervise a team of three, including a Controller and two accounting staff members. Collaboration with external auditors will be essential, as the CFO will provide the necessary documentation for annual audits. The role also involves managing the organization's financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management. Engaging with state legislators, governors, and private donors to convey the impact and financial needs of the organization is a key responsibility, as is presenting financial information effectively and telling compelling stories about the organization's mission. The CFO will oversee compliance audits and ensure adherence to nonprofit accounting standards, working closely with the Chief Philanthropic Officer to secure funding and meet budgetary requirements. Participation in external functions and events approximately once a month will be required to represent the organization and its financial interests.

Requirements

  • CPA certification is preferred.
  • Previous experience in public accounting is preferred.
  • Strong background in nonprofit accounting, with experience working with municipalities and nonprofits.
  • Excellent knowledge of financial and accounting principles.
  • Ability to engage and communicate effectively with state legislators, governors, private donors, and external auditors.
  • Demonstrated ability to present financial information and tell compelling stories about the organization's impact.
  • Flexibility to work beyond regular hours, as needed, with an understanding that this is not a typical 9-to-5 role.
  • Familiarity with Sage accounting software or similar platforms.
  • Supervisory experience, preferably in a finance or accounting department.
  • A commitment to the mission and values of the organization.
