The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Diocese of Cleveland is a pivotal role that provides financial leadership and strategic direction for the diocese, which encompasses a large community of over 692,000 Catholics across several counties in Ohio. Reporting directly to the Bishop of Cleveland and working closely with the Moderator of the Curia, the CFO will oversee various departments including Parish Financial Services, School Financial Services, Human Resources and Employee Benefits, and Diocesan Risk Management & Insurance Services. This full-time, exempt position is essential for ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the diocese's operations and services. The CFO will be responsible for the development and management of the Diocese's substantial budgets, including a $27+ million administrative budget and a $90+ million benefit/insurance plan budget. Additionally, the CFO will manage a personal operating budget exceeding $3 million. Key responsibilities include the preparation of financial statements, budgets, and financial analyses, as well as managing bank relations, cash management, debt oversight, and investment oversight. The CFO will also play a critical role in overseeing diocesan accounting and risk management, ensuring compliance with financial regulations and best practices. The ideal candidate for this role will have a strong background in financial leadership within a comparable Diocesan financial organization or a complex Catholic nonprofit organization. The successful candidate will demonstrate a commitment to the values and mission of the Roman Catholic Church, possess 5 to 10 years of senior financial leadership experience, and have a proven track record in fiscal management and developing revenue sources. Strong communication and organizational skills, along with the ability to manage change and transition effectively, are essential for success in this role.
