About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the City of East Lansing will lead and manage the Finance Department, overseeing daily operations and providing financial support to the City Manager. This role requires a visionary leader who can coordinate activities across departments and deliver complex financial analyses and policy recommendations. The CFO will also supervise a team of 16 employees, including four professional managers, and will play a crucial role in the city's financial planning and budgeting processes.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, direct, manage, and oversee the daily activities of the Finance Department.
  • Coordinate activities with other departments and outside agencies.
  • Provide reliable and trustworthy financial support to the City Manager.
  • Conduct complex financial analysis and make policy recommendations.
  • Supervise and manage the Finance Department staff, including four professional managers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Public Administration, Business Administration, Economics, or a related field.
  • Eight years of responsible experience in fiscal services.
  • Four years of administrative and supervisory experience.
  • Master's Degree in a related field (preferred).
  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Certified Public Accountant in the State of Michigan (preferred).
