About the position

The Chief Financial Officer II (CFO II) position at the Department of Indian Affairs (IAD) is responsible for overseeing and managing the agency's budget and financial transactions to ensure compliance with state accounting practices. This role plays a critical part in advocating for the interests of federally recognized New Mexico Nations, Pueblos, and Tribes (NPTs) by managing financial resources and supporting funding opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and continuously monitor the agency's budget and financial internal controls.
  • Manage all financial transactions and ensure accurate accounting of budgets, funding sources, and Capital Outlay funds using MAP's practices.
  • Oversee the general fund allocation and severance tax bonds issued to the Tribal Infrastructure Board.
  • Implement and maintain sound financial controls and ensure compliance with established practices.
  • Lead external annual audits and oversee internal audit controls.
  • Manage the Accountant Auditor Supervisor and staff to ensure the integrity and accuracy of financial transactions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or Auditing.
  • Eight (8) years of experience in Accounting, Business Administration, Public Administration, Finance, or Auditing, including two (2) years of experience with PeopleSoft, Oracle Financials, or similar software.
  • Three (3) years of managerial or supervisory experience.
  • Four (4) years of experience in Accounting, Finance, or Financial Auditing may substitute for the required degree.

Benefits

  • Competitive salary ranging from $32.84 to $52.54 hourly, or $68,302 to $109,283 annually.
