About the position

As the Chief Financial Officer in Training at Sierra Vista Hospital, you will be part of a prestigious program designed to cultivate future financial leaders within the healthcare sector, specifically focusing on behavioral health services. This program is a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience under the mentorship of an experienced Chief Financial Officer in a UHS free-standing inpatient psychiatric facility. You will be immersed in the financial operations of the hospital, focusing on key areas such as accounting, finance functions, and team management. Your training will encompass a comprehensive understanding of facility financial metrics, including provider contracting, budget and strategic planning, accounts receivable management, and oversight of the business office. You will also be responsible for preparing monthly and yearly financial packages, managing staffing in relation to patient volume, and ensuring that cash collection goals are met. The program is designed to fast-track your career, preparing you for a Chief Financial Officer role within the UHS Behavioral Division upon successful completion. You will develop essential skills in monitoring and controlling accounts receivables, improving hospital profitability, and ensuring compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and corporate guidelines. Additionally, you will prepare financial statements, conduct reconciliations, and assist various departments in financial reporting. This role requires a commitment to continuous learning and adaptation, as you will be expected to engage with real-life financial challenges and develop solutions that align with UHS's operational goals. Candidates must be open to relocation after completing the training program, as UHS operates nearly 200 behavioral health facilities nationwide. Relocation assistance will be provided to successful candidates. Responsibilities

  • Monitor and control accounts receivables.
  • Oversee Business Office functions to ensure cash collection goals are met and net revenue is properly stated.
  • Improve the profitability of the hospital by continually monitoring costs, especially staffing in relation to patient volume.
  • Develop and monitor policies and procedures within generally accepted accounting principles and corporate guidelines to ensure sufficient cash flow, reduced hospital operating costs, and increased revenues.
  • Prepare monthly financial statements, financial packages, and reports/analysis.
  • Provide reconciliations, account analysis, and other information for the Reimbursement Department, Tax Department, Auditors, etc., to aid in preparation of reports.
  • Prepare annual budget in conjunction with UHS standards, reviewing prior financial results and discussing anticipated changes to highlight future needs and trends of the facility.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in a financial role in an inpatient healthcare setting, Acute Care Hospital or behavioral health.
  • Minimum education requirement of a Bachelor's degree in accounting; a Master's degree is preferred.
  • Experience in multiple areas of healthcare finance and accounting required, including AP/AR, payroll, accounting, business office, financial counseling, budgeting, etc.
