About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Caritas of Austin is a leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial administration, business planning, and budgeting of the organization. The CFO will work closely with the Executive Team to assess the organization's performance against its budget and long-term growth plan, ensuring financial stability and compliance. This position offers the opportunity to lead a dedicated finance team and contribute to the mission of ending homelessness in the community.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all financial administration, business planning, and budgeting for the organization.
  • Set financial policy and direction while participating in the organization's overall strategy.
  • Serve as a resource to board leadership and staff executive leadership, providing strategic recommendations based on financial analysis.
  • Oversee long-term budgetary planning and cost management in alignment with the strategic plan.
  • Ensure compliance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and regulatory requirements.
  • Monitor progress and report key metrics to staff, board, and collaborative leaders.
  • Oversee the preparation and approval of all financial reporting materials for funding organizations and the board of directors.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting; direct all financial, project-based, and departmental accounting.
  • Provide direct oversight of the Controller and support their development and management of direct staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree along with a CPA and/or CMA from an accredited educational institution.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience in a senior financial management role in a non-profit organization.
  • Experience managing a budget of at least $5 million.
  • Demonstrated excellence in managing finance, accounting, budgeting, internal control, and reporting.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with compliance and financial management of government grants.
  • Advanced computer skills, including proficiency in MS Office and advanced Excel skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master of Business Administration (MBA)
  • Experience with grants from City of Austin, HUD, and/or the VA.
  • Experience with Abila MIP Fund Accounting or other larger ERP systems like NetSuite or Financial Edge NXT.
