About the position

The Pet Segment Chief Financial Officer (CFO) serves as a strategic advisor to the President of Pet Products and their direct reports, overseeing all financial responsibilities for the Pet organization, which generates over $1.8 billion in sales. This role involves financial reporting, analysis, budgeting, and ensuring the accuracy of financial statements, while also playing a critical role in developing and implementing the organization's strategy to enhance efficiency, sales, and profit margins.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a member of the Pet leadership team and the CFO's leadership team.
  • Participate in key decisions regarding strategic initiatives and operational execution.
  • Engage with Central's CFO on financial issues and trends.
  • Assess organizational performance against the annual budget and long-term strategy, developing recovery plans as needed.
  • Develop tools and systems to provide critical financial and operational information to the CFO and leadership team.
  • Establish yearly objectives and KPIs, along with tracking mechanisms.
  • Analyze financial details of each business unit to identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Direct and coordinate financial planning and budgeting for the Pet organization.
  • Lead and improve financial forecasting accuracy in coordination with the business.
  • Analyze return on investment for new products and brand-building activities.
  • Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements and operational packages.
  • Build and develop a strong finance team, ensuring a robust pipeline of talent.
  • Manage cash flow and forecasting, working with Corporate Treasury on working capital investments.
  • Oversee finance and accounting systems and ensure proper maintenance of internal controls.
  • Lead financial diligence of potential acquisitions and support integration of acquired businesses.

Requirements

  • At least 15 years of broad finance experience, including accounting and governance.
  • 5 years' experience in a high-performance consumer products manufacturing environment.
  • BS/BA degree in accounting, finance, or related discipline required; CPA and MBA preferred.
  • Exceptional financial and operational analysis skills with a proven ability to meet reporting deadlines.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and influencing skills, with experience as a business partner.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • History of succession planning and talent development.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience interpreting strategic vision into operational models.
  • Fluent in GAAP and Sarbanes-Oxley requirements.
  • Demonstrated strengths in project management and change management.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with ERP systems, particularly SAP, and business intelligence tools like Cognos.
  • Proven skills in both strategic and tactical planning.
