About the position

The Symicor Group is a boutique talent acquisition firm that specializes in providing top-tier banking and accounting talent. We are currently seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for our community bank client located in the Atlanta, GA area. This is a senior leadership role that requires a dynamic and innovative individual who will oversee all accounting functions within the bank. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of implementing successful growth strategies for various banking institutions and will play a crucial role in guiding the organization’s financial direction towards growth and expansion. As the CFO, you will be responsible for directing all financial activities of the bank, which includes financial reporting, planning, supervision, and investment management. You will assist the Executive Team in forecasting, budgeting, and preparing for future financial needs. Your duties will also include preparing and filing annual tax returns or providing the necessary financial information for outside accountants to complete tax returns. You will prepare or oversee the preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial forecasts, annual budgets, and reports required by regulatory agencies. In addition to these responsibilities, you will serve as a member or Chairman of the bank's Asset-Liability Committee (ALCO) and supervise employees engaged in financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting tasks. It is essential to maintain current knowledge of organizational policies, federal and state regulations, and accounting standards. You will conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions to ensure compliance with all legal requirements. Your role will also involve monitoring financial activities, ensuring that all legal and regulatory requirements are met, and evaluating the performance of accounting and financial staff. You will be responsible for developing internal control policies and procedures for budget administration, cash management, and accounting. Analyzing financial details of past, present, and expected operations will be crucial in identifying development opportunities and areas for improvement. You will also lead staff training and development in budgeting and financial management areas, ensuring that the team is well-equipped to meet the bank's financial goals.

Responsibilities

  • Direct all financial activities including reporting, planning, supervision, and investments for the organization.
  • Assist the Executive Team in forecasting, budgeting, and preparing for future financial needs.
  • Prepare and file annual tax returns or provide financial information for outside accountants to complete tax returns.
  • Prepare or oversee the preparation of financial statements, business activity reports, financial forecasts, annual budgets, and regulatory reports.
  • Serve as a member or Chairman of the bank's ALCO committee.
  • Supervise employees performing financial reporting, accounting, billing, collections, payroll, and budgeting duties.
  • Maintain knowledge of organizational policies, federal and state regulations, and current accounting standards.
  • Conduct or coordinate audits of company accounts and financial transactions for compliance.
  • Monitor financial activities to ensure legal and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Evaluate the performance of accounting and financial staff, recommending personnel actions as necessary.
  • Coordinate and direct financial planning, budgeting, procurement, or investment activities.
  • Develop internal control policies and procedures for budget administration and cash management.
  • Analyze financial details to identify development opportunities and areas for improvement.
  • Evaluate needs for procurement of funds and investment of surpluses, making recommendations accordingly.
  • Lead staff training and development in budgeting and financial management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance and accounting from a four-year college or university required (Master's Degree Preferred).
  • Four or more years of related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Proficient in PC software such as Excel, Word, and Access.
  • Excellent attention to detail and emphasis on accuracy.
  • Excellent communication skills: verbal, listening, and written.
  • Ability to work well under pressure, set priorities, meet deadlines, and resolve complex financial problems.
