About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Breakthrough T1D is an executive-level role responsible for overseeing the financial operations and strategic objectives of the organization. Reporting to the Chief Operating Officer (COO), the CFO will collaborate closely with senior leadership to manage financial resources effectively, ensuring compliance with regulations and supporting the mission to cure type 1 diabetes. This position requires a forward-thinking leader who can provide expert financial insight and drive the organization’s financial strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the day-to-day fiscal functions of the organization, including oversight of all financial operations.
  • Advise the CEO, COO, and senior leadership on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, and investment priorities.
  • Serve as the management liaison to the Finance & Investment and Audit & Risk committees of the Board.
  • Evaluate and strengthen Breakthrough T1D's system of policies, internal controls, and procedures.
  • Administer all accounting and treasury activities, including monthly closings and payroll management.
  • Oversee the preparation of annual and long-range operating and capital budgets.
  • Manage relationships with third-party investment management firms and ensure compliance with regulations.
  • Develop financial metrics to enhance understanding of the organization's financial position and performance.
  • Mentor and supervise the Finance team, ensuring alignment with Breakthrough T1D's mission.

Requirements

  • MBA or another relevant advanced degree preferred.
  • CPA certification with a strong background in accounting and financial management.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in financial leadership roles.
  • Experience working with and supporting committees and Boards of Directors.
  • Strong management skills with experience in coaching and mentoring diverse teams.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

  • Global expansion experience is a plus.

Benefits

  • Base compensation of $300,000-375,000 with the opportunity for a bonus of approximately 20%.
