About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, including cash management, investment strategies, financial reporting, and compliance with regulatory requirements. The CFO will also play a key role in fundraising and business development, working closely with the CEO and other executives to enhance the organization's financial health and sustainability.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day cash management operations performed by the Operations Manager.
  • Manage cash transfers between investment and bank accounts and collaborate with the Chief Investment Officer on investment strategies.
  • Liaise with CPA firm for the annual audit effort and oversee the financial reporting process.
  • Ensure preparation, approval, and filing of IRS and state required reports.
  • Conduct occasional meetings and research on grant requests involving complex situations.
  • Review operations procedures and marketing materials.
  • Review contracts with in-house counsel as necessary.
  • Research tax and giving issues and strategies.
  • Manage banking relations and corporate insurance applications.
  • Assist in training support personnel in financial aspects of new business opportunities.
  • Attend and present on planned giving ideas for potential donors.
  • Assist with grant applications to foundations.
  • Review donor communications from the marketing department.
  • Develop monetary and strategic goals for the fundraising program.
  • Evaluate financial effectiveness of fundraising programs and recommend improvements.
  • Work with current donors to raise funds for operations and building acquisition.
  • Assist the CEO with assigned tasks and attend various meetings and training sessions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration or a related field.
  • Experience in the non-profit industry is highly preferred.
  • Experience with planned giving and major donor development tactics.
  • Experience with planned giving solutions and marketing tools.
  • Some supervisory experience with accounting/finance staff.
  • Ability to manage complex projects and multi-task effectively.
  • Proficient computer skills.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
