About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the Fund for Public Health in New York City (FPHNYC) is responsible for overseeing the organization's budget of approximately $100 million. This role involves leading financial policies, advising executive leadership on fiscal health, and ensuring compliance with regulatory agencies. The CFO will also manage the fiscal team and enhance financial management systems to support the organization's mission of advancing public health in New York City.

Responsibilities

  • Lead all matters relating to financial policies and procedures, budget planning, formulation, presentation, execution, reporting, and requirements for financial management systems.
  • Advise the executive leadership team on matters related to the fiscal health of the organization.
  • Provide leadership, supervision, and oversee the operations of the fiscal team including planning, assigning, and directing work.
  • Lead financial management activities and an integrated accounting and financial management system.
  • Develop and/or oversee the implementation of programs and processes that ensure robust monitoring of financial transactions and budget execution.
  • Institute methodologies, organizational practices, and processes to ensure audit readiness and accuracy.
  • Enhance and/or develop, implement, and enforce financial policies and procedures of the organization.
  • Be an advisor from the financial and risk perspective on any significant contracts into which the organization may enter.
  • Oversee and advise in the implementation, development, and maintenance of information technology systems for internal and external finance systems.
  • Evaluate the finance and management teams' structure and plan for continual improvement of the efficiency and effectiveness of the group.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Master's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, or Finance preferred.
  • Eight to ten years of experience in financial management.
  • Proven advanced leadership skills in a not-for-profit industry.
  • Experience in strategic planning.
  • Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures of business and fiscal administration.
  • Excellent management and supervisory skills.
  • Excellent analytical and organizational skills.
  • Proficient in database and accounting computer application systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience managing mixed and complex revenue streams.
  • Experience in the oversight and review of financial transactions.
  • Ability to maintain the confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Ability to plan, organize and direct the work of others.
  • Strong leadership skills.
