About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization. The CFO will work closely with the Executive Management Team to guide the council's direction and strategy, ensuring that financial policies and practices align with the council's goals. This position involves managing budgets, financial reporting, compliance, and risk management while supporting the council's mission to empower girls.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the CEO, Chief Officers, and Board of Directors on finance policy matters.
  • Supervise the preparation of annual operating and capital budgets for presentation to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee all financial reporting activities, providing accurate and up-to-date information on financial activities.
  • Support the Audit Committee, Finance Committee, and other Board Task Groups as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and not-for-profit regulations in all financial operations.
  • Administer and control accounting and treasury functions to safeguard the council's assets.
  • Manage the council's investment portfolio and oversee the RFP process for investment advisors.
  • Provide fiduciary oversight of the council's benefits plans, including the 403(b) Plan.
  • Analyze budgets, financial reports, and trends to assist in decision making.
  • Manage physical operations, including properties and fixed assets, in a cost-effective manner.
  • Oversee financial and operational audits and implement improvements to internal controls.
  • Develop and retain high-performing finance staff to achieve successful operating results.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and COO to manage organizational risk and secure adequate insurance coverage.
  • Support the Council's fund development and membership goals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience as CFO or Controller, preferably in a nonprofit setting.
  • CPA Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years of management/supervisory experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to analyze facts and statistics and reach objective conclusions.
  • Initiative to develop ideas and plans, and stimulate action among others.
  • Flexibility and willingness to serve diverse communities.
  • Commitment to the aims and purposes of the Girl Scout movement.

Nice-to-haves
