About the position

Reef Capital Partners (RCP) is seeking a Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to join its executive leadership team. The CFO will play a crucial role in shaping the financial strategy of the firm, which specializes in commercial real estate investments, including private credit and private equity. Founded in 2005, RCP has successfully completed over 500 transactions valued at approximately $2 billion, demonstrating a strong track record of performance. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in finance and accounting, particularly within the real estate development and hospitality sectors, and will be responsible for leading the finance and accounting teams while contributing to strategic decision-making at the executive level. The CFO will oversee project-level financing efforts, ensuring that the necessary debt is raised for construction and acquisition of real estate assets. This includes leading the company's relationships with lenders and collaborating with the CEO to secure appropriate debt and equity for the firm. The role also involves managing the financial accounting team to produce GAAP-compliant financial statements, ensuring timely tax compliance, and overseeing financial planning and analysis functions. The CFO will monitor investment performance, conduct variance analysis, and prepare comprehensive reports for senior management, including key performance indicators (KPIs) and dashboards. In addition to these responsibilities, the CFO will evaluate investment activities, advise on capital expenditures, and lead the annual budgeting process, working closely with department heads to align financial objectives with the company's strategic goals. The successful candidate will possess strong leadership skills, exceptional analytical abilities, and a proven track record of raising significant financing for real estate projects.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key member of Reef's executive leadership team, providing input on strategic issues and challenges.
  • Lead the company's project-level construction/acquisition financing efforts, responsible for raising project-level debt and permanent debt upon stabilization.
  • Lead efforts to grow and deepen relationships with lenders.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to raise appropriate debt and equity for Reef itself.
  • Lead the financial accounting team to provide GAAP-compliant financials and complete the annual audit.
  • Oversee tax compliance and planning efforts, ensuring timely and accurate tax filings.
  • Manage the financial planning and analysis function, including budgeting, forecasting, and cash management.
  • Monitor changes in projected performance of investments and track actual performance against budgets.
  • Lead the annual budget process, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives and reporting on budgets vs. actuals.
  • Conduct variance analysis to identify trends and recommend corrective actions.
  • Evaluate and advise on investment activities, including capital expenditures and project financing.
  • Prepare and present monthly, quarterly, and annual reports to senior management.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field; MBA or relevant graduate degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 15 years of experience in accounting and finance, with at least 10 years in a leadership role.
  • Experience in the real estate development or hospitality industries preferred.
  • Proven track record of raising significant debt or financing, including multiple nine-figure financing raises simultaneously.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, tax rules, accounting standards, and compliance requirements.
  • Exceptional analytical, quantitative, and strategic thinking skills.
  • Advanced proficiency in financial modeling and analysis tools.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to influence at all levels of the organization and work collaboratively across functions.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and manage teams to achieve results.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to manage complex projects under tight deadlines.
