About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Southern Chautauqua Federal Credit Union is responsible for directing and managing all finance and accounting practices to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. The role involves strategic planning, budget preparation, financial reporting, and overseeing investments under NCUA regulations. The CFO will also assist in grant preparation and provide guidance on investment decisions, while ensuring that generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP) are met.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee and manage the financial and accounting functions of the Credit Union including ALM, AP, AR, budgets, collections, GL, financial analysis, financial reporting, and recordkeeping.
  • Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the Accounting/Finance Department.
  • Direct and supervise the development, production, promotion, and sale of the Credit Union's products and services.
  • Prepare reports and presentations for the Credit Union's monthly Board meetings.
  • Attend scheduled Senior management meetings.
  • Participate in determining deposit and loan rates.
  • Provide guidance regarding investment decisions.
  • Hold periodic department meetings to identify areas for improvement and keep staff updated on trends.
  • Assist with lease negotiation and major purchasing decisions for capital equipment or other capital asset expenditures.
  • Prepare and maintain ALM and quarterly reporting.
  • Manage and maintain funding of Allowance for Loan Lease Loss Model.
  • Forecast the balance sheet.
  • Assist in analysis of new branch site locations and closings of existing branches.
  • Oversee various internal audit procedures.
  • Serve as the Credit Union's liaison with regulatory agency examiners and internal auditors.
  • Oversee and manage the Debit Card department and Fraud department.
  • Develop and implement the Strategic Plan and quarterly reporting to the Board of Directors.
  • Assist with contract negotiations.
  • Participate in the research and application process for grants and track grant funds.
  • Manage and track requirements for CDFI recertification.
  • Periodically travel to branches.
  • Attend conferences pertinent to the position.

Requirements

  • BS/BA Degree and/or 5 years experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge of Federal Rules and Regulations is preferred.
  • CPA or experience with financial institutions.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of accounting software and inventory software.
  • Experience with project management software.
