About the position

Smith-Midland Corporation is seeking a highly experienced and strategic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to provide leadership, management, and technical expertise for our company and subsidiaries. This critical role plays a central part in shaping our strategic direction, ensuring financial health, and driving long-term sustainability. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, and managing relationships with third-party service providers. This position requires a strong understanding of financial reporting processes and the ability to analyze financial data to identify trends and opportunities that will support the company's growth and profitability. In this role, the CFO will lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting and human resources departments. They will manage relationships and ensure high performance from third-party service providers, including auditors, tax preparers, and insurance providers. The CFO will also be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining internal controls over financial reporting processes to provide reasonable assurance regarding the reliability of financial reporting and the preparation of financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP). Collaboration with the CEO and other executives is essential, as the CFO will help develop business plans, set strategic priorities, and allocate resources effectively. The CFO will safeguard financial assets, maximize cash flow, and optimize financial processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Additionally, they will manage investor relations by effectively communicating financial performance and growth prospects to investors and analysts, oversee regulatory compliance, and ensure timely filing of required reports. The role also includes managing stock compensation programs and ensuring adherence to accounting standards and tax regulations, as well as leading the human resources department in recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and oversee the day-to-day operations of the accounting and human resources departments.
  • Manage relationships and ensure high performance from third-party service providers (auditors, tax preparers, insurance providers, etc.).
  • Analyze financial data, identify trends and opportunities, and present insights to senior management.
  • Design, implement, and maintain internal control over financial reporting processes to provide reasonable assurance regarding the reliability of financial reporting and the preparation of financial statements for external purposes in accordance with GAAP.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and other executives to develop business plans, set strategic priorities, and allocate resources.
  • Safeguard financial assets, maximize cash flow, and optimize financial processes for efficiency and cost-effectiveness.
  • Manage investor relations by effectively communicating financial performance and growth prospects to investors and analysts.
  • Oversee regulatory compliance and timely filing of required reports.
  • Manage stock compensation programs and ensure adherence to accounting standards and tax regulations.
  • Lead the human resources department, overseeing all aspects of recruitment, onboarding, employee development, and compliance.
  • Oversee the selection and management of health and business insurance providers.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting or Finance (Master's degree preferred).
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting and financial management.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience working within a publicly traded company.
  • Strong expertise in GAAP and financial reporting.
  • Certified Public Accountant (CPA) certification preferred.
  • Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
  • Strategic thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Proficient in financial modeling and analysis tools.
