About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Enterprise Community Partners is a pivotal executive role that reports directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) and serves as a key member of the Operating Committee. The CFO is responsible for overseeing the financial health of the organization, which manages over $19 billion in Assets Under Management (AUM) and generates an annual revenue of $515 million. This position entails a comprehensive range of responsibilities, including financial planning and analysis, liquidity and cash management, and accounting across the organization. The CFO acts as a strategic partner and advisor to senior leadership, providing insights and guidance on financial matters that impact the organization’s strategic direction. In addition to managing a 75-person finance team through six direct reports, the CFO is tasked with ensuring compliance with financial regulations and internal controls. They will lead the organization’s financial risk management strategies, working closely with various departments to mitigate risks associated with financial reporting and compliance. The CFO will also represent the organization in discussions with external auditors and tax firms, ensuring that all financial practices align with industry standards and regulations. The role requires a mature leader with extensive experience in financial management, particularly within the nonprofit sector. The CFO will be involved in all aspects of the organization’s operations, including corporate finance transactions, regulatory compliance, and cybersecurity. They will also play a crucial role in fostering a culture of integrity and compliance throughout the organization, while supporting the mission of Enterprise to create affordable housing and community development opportunities. The CFO will collaborate with various teams, including the Chief Human Resources Officer and the Chief Legal Officer, to analyze costs associated with employee benefits and ensure that corporate governance is maintained. This position is not only about managing finances but also about driving strategic change and supporting the organization’s mission through effective financial leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Functionally responsible for all finance, accounting, and tax affairs for the organization.
  • Act as a strategic partner and financial advisor to the CEO and other senior executives.
  • Monitor and advise on emerging trends in the operating model and financial reporting.
  • Responsible for financial and liquidity risk management for the organization.
  • Lead the finance department managing all finance, accounting, and tax functions.
  • Manage financial risk management strategies and operations, ensuring compliance with loan covenants and corporate policies.
  • Partner with the Chief Human Resources Officer regarding employee benefits analysis.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable guidance and regulations, including GAAP and IRS requirements.
  • Serve as liaison to the board of trustees and provide leadership for board governance and committees.
  • Prepare and manage the overall organization and finance department's budget.

Requirements

  • 20 years of experience in financial management, real estate, development, fund management, and/or tax credit projects.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or equivalent; master's degree preferred.
  • Skill in recognizing strategic business opportunities resulting from changes in various environments.
  • Experience leading the finance function with a diverse employee population.
  • Confident and assertive in driving solutions for the organizational platform.
  • Experience in all aspects of nonprofit accounting and financial management.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Ability to navigate ambiguity and complexity while finding creative solutions.
  • Strong visionary and strategic thinking skills centered on mission.
