About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) will serve as the key financial leader for a Federally Qualified Health Center with a significant operating budget of $46 million. This role involves collaborating closely with the CEO and leadership team to develop and implement clinical service operations strategies, transitioning the organization from a traditional reimbursement model to a value-based payment model over the next 3-5 years. The CFO will play a crucial role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization while making a positive impact on the community.

Responsibilities

  • Attend Executive Team meetings to develop and maintain a strategic plan for growth and program development.
  • Prepare financial statements, cash flow analyses, budgets, and reports for review by the Executive Team and Board of Directors.
  • Assess and analyze the financial health of the organization and report findings to the Executive Management Team and Board of Directors.
  • Develop and revise fiscal policies and procedures to ensure compliance with laws and funding agency requirements.
  • Manage contracts, grants, and other legal agreements to align with the organization's mission and strategic plan.
  • Perform administrative functions including contract management and personnel coordination.
  • Maintain effective internal financial management controls in accordance with GAAP.
  • Ensure fiscal compliance with relevant laws and regulations through policy development and training.
  • Provide technical information and guidance to managers and the Board regarding financial management.
  • Report monthly to the Board of Directors' Finance Committee with financial updates and recommendations.
  • Represent the organization in meetings and conferences with external agencies and institutions.
  • Direct the fixed assets inventory process and safeguard the organization's assets.
  • Manage annual financial audits and ensure adherence to contract and grant requirements.
  • Oversee payroll management for all employees and coordinate activities of business and fiscal personnel.
  • Provide collaborative assistance to ensure the organization's ongoing success.
  • Model service excellence in all internal and external relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a business-related or administrative major; Master's degree in accounting or related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 8+ years of hands-on experience in a related administrative position in a healthcare organization.
  • Experience in a managed care environment is strongly preferred.
  • Knowledge of utilization management and costs associated with healthcare services is required.
  • Experience with mergers and acquisitions is highly desirable.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and direct financial operations and make difficult decisions.
  • Experience in a nonprofit or Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC) organization is preferred.
  • Previous experience managing payroll functions is strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of five years of direct supervisory experience is required.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are necessary.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure and without direct supervision is required.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to build trust and respect among staff and colleagues are essential.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and technical knowledge related to financial and administrative issues are required.
  • Sensitivity to the needs of a culturally and linguistically diverse population is necessary.
  • High competency in accounting software and advanced Excel skills are required.
  • Emotional coping skills to handle emotional situations are necessary.
  • Willingness to work some evenings and weekends as needed.
