About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the Pueblo of Jemez is a key executive role responsible for leading the Fiscal Department and managing all financial functions of the organization. The CFO will provide strategic financial leadership, ensure compliance with funding agency regulations, and oversee the preparation of financial statements. This position requires a strong focus on healthcare finance and collaboration with senior leadership to achieve financial goals and objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and direction for the Fiscal Department.
  • Manage all fiscal functions of the organization, ensuring compliance with regulations.
  • Supervise and manage select organization programs.
  • Serve as the principal advisor on financial matters and direct policy formulation.
  • Prepare accurate and timely financial statements and reports.
  • Participate in the development of strategic planning and implementation of approved programs.
  • Work closely with the Finance Director to ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial information.
  • Provide strategic recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Manage financial forecasting, budgets, and reporting processes.
  • Advise on long-term business and financial planning.
  • Develop financial strategies and action plans in collaboration with senior leadership.
  • Ensure adherence to Title V Self-Governance compact and protect IHS funds.
  • Evaluate and improve financial internal controls and processes.
  • Coordinate audit-related projects and communicate with outside parties.
  • Negotiate with vendors and manage existing relationships.
  • Direct IT planning needs and system evaluations.

Requirements

  • Masters degree in accounting, finance, or a closely related field.
  • At least ten (10) years of Management and Director-level supervisory experience with a healthcare focus.
  • Certified Public Accountant status preferred.
  • New Mexico Drivers License.
  • Background Investigation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Revenue Cycle Management regarding Medicaid, Medicare, CHIP and Private Insurance billing requirements.
  • Experience working with P.L. 93-638 organizations (Title I or Title V).
  • Knowledge of Performance improvement methodologies.
  • Knowledge of grants management.
  • IHS or tribal health knowledge preferred.
