About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at BHProperties will play a pivotal role in the financial management of the company, which is a privately held commercial real estate investment firm. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations and ensuring the company's financial health as it focuses on value-add acquisitions across various property types including office, industrial, retail, and multi-family properties throughout the Western United States. The company has a strong track record of 31 years and manages nearly 100 properties across 18 states, representing approximately 10 million square feet. This position will require a high level of visibility and collaboration with other departments such as Finance, Asset Management, and Acquisitions. The CFO will manage cash flow projections to ensure the availability of funds and assist in maintaining relationships with banks, institutions, and other financial partners. This includes ensuring the timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting, compliance with loan covenants, and preparing financial presentations for stakeholders. The CFO will also explore new investment opportunities, assess financial risks, and develop strategies to mitigate those risks. Additionally, the role involves working closely with the senior leadership team to prepare long-term financial goals, annual plans, budgets, and projections, while leveraging existing networks to provide insights and recommendations for achieving both short-term and long-term objectives. The CFO will also be tasked with creating strategic initiatives that generate additional opportunities for the company, which may include participation in industry organizations and speaking engagements. The role requires a strong work ethic, the ability to work independently, and a collaborative spirit to ensure effective communication and accurate presentation materials across the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Manage cash flow projections ensuring availability of funds.
  • Assist in managing Company relationships with banks, institutions, and other financial partners along with assisting in identifying new lending sources.
  • Ensure timeliness and accuracy of financial reporting to banks and other financial partners.
  • Ensure compliance with loan covenants.
  • Prepare and conduct financial presentations to banks and other financial partners.
  • Propose action plans to ensure that financial objectives are attained.
  • Assist in managing the balance sheet and revenues/expenses of the Company.
  • Explore new investment opportunities and provide recommendations on potential risks and returns.
  • Work with the senior leadership team in the preparation of the long-term financial goals, annual plans, budgets, and projections.
  • Leverage past and existing networks to provide insight and recommendations to manage both short-term and long-term goals of the Company.
  • Assist in developing a capitalization strategy for new acquisitions and existing owned assets.
  • Create strategic initiatives that generate additional opportunities for the company through external relationships, which may include speaking engagements and participation in select industry organizations/entities.
  • Assess financial risks and recommend strategies to mitigate those risks.
  • Respond to financial related questions from lenders and other stakeholders.
  • Partner with other internal departments to ensure that communications and presentation materials are accurate.
  • Ensure budget and forecast models are accurate.
  • Execute special projects and ad hoc analyses as needed.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree required in accounting or business-related field.
  • Both a CPA and graduate degree a plus.
  • 15+ years of experience in real estate accounting or related field.
  • Experience in Yardi software a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and professionally within all levels of the organization and externally with lenders and other outside parties.
  • Ability to work independently and with minimum supervision.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced entrepreneurial environment.
  • Must possess a strong work ethic.
  • Must be a team player.
