About the position

Opportunities for Otsego is seeking a highly qualified financial professional to lead our fiscal team as the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). The CFO will play a critical role in ensuring the financial health and sustainability of the organization. This position requires a dynamic leader who can adapt to a continually evolving environment and thrive in an autonomous and deadline-oriented workplace. The CFO will be responsible for overseeing all financial operations, ensuring compliance with government contracts and private grants, and managing the organization's financial resources effectively. The CFO's responsibilities include ensuring the timely and accurate completion of payroll and related processes, overseeing compliance and recognition for government (federal and state) contracts and private grants, and managing cash flow planning, cash investments, and asset management. The CFO will also be responsible for developing and monitoring budgets, coordinating audits, and ensuring the proper filing of tax returns. This role is essential for maintaining the financial integrity of Opportunities for Otsego and supporting its mission to help people and change lives. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of non-profit accounting principles, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders. The CFO will work closely with the executive team to develop financial strategies that align with the organization's goals and objectives, ensuring that financial resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to support programmatic initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Ensuring timely and accurate completion of payroll and related processes.
  • Overseeing all compliance and recognition for government (federal and state) contracts and private grants.
  • Overseeing cash flow planning, cash investments, and asset management.
  • Managing financing strategies and activities, including banking relationships.
  • Coordinating the development and monitoring of budgets.
  • Coordinating audits and proper filing of tax returns.

Requirements

  • Certified Public Accountant OR a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Fiscal Management or related field.
  • Three years' experience in fund accounting, preferably non-profit accounting.
  • Understanding of generally accepted accounting principles for non-profit agencies.
  • Knowledge of OMB Uniform Grants Guidance and other applicable regulations.
  • Strong technology skills with experience in financial and human resource management software.
  • Relevant supervisory and management experience.
  • A valid New York State driver's license.
