About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Wayland Baptist University (WBU) is responsible for providing leadership and guidance for all financial and human resource functions within the university. This role involves ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements, stewarding university resources, implementing process improvements, and delivering high-quality administrative services. The CFO serves as a key member of the President's Cabinet and acts as the administrative liaison to the Board of Trustees' Finance and Investment Committees.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the administrative liaison to the Board of Trustees' Finance and Investment Committees.
  • Provide financial expertise as a member of the President's Cabinet and report on University finances to the leadership team and Trustees.
  • Manage all financial operations of the university, including preparation of annual financial statements and tax returns.
  • Prepare and distribute all budget reports and analyze financial results.
  • Provide administrative oversight for budgetary control and coordinate the annual audit.
  • Develop long-term resource allocation plans and annual budgets with university input.
  • Manage the University's cash, investments, and debt portfolios.
  • Steward the University's endowments and maintain accurate fund valuations and balances.
  • Collaborate with the VP of Enrollment and Senior Director of Financial Aid to allocate federal, state, and institutional financial aid.
  • Provide guidance and oversight for Financial Services, Human Resources, Procurement, and the University Bookstore.
  • Review recommendations regarding appointments, promotions, terminations, and salaries.
  • Identify and update out-of-date policies in collaboration with the leadership team.
  • Establish a clear procure-to-pay process to address risk and eliminate inefficiencies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree required; Master's Degree or CPA preferred.
  • Seven years of experience in accounting, preferably with a non-profit organization.
  • Thorough understanding of not-for-profit accounting, including financial reporting and tax-exempt regulations.
  • Demonstrated success in delivering financial functions and responsibilities.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience at a private institution of higher education is preferred.
