About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Girl Scouts North Carolina Coastal Pines is a strategic leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the organization. The CFO will work closely with the Executive Management Team to guide the council's direction and strategy, ensuring that financial policies and practices align with the council's goals. This position requires a results-driven individual who can manage financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and risk management while supporting the council's mission to empower girls.

Responsibilities

  • Advise the CEO, other Chief Officers, and the council's Board of Directors on finance policy matters.
  • Supervise the preparation of the annual operating and capital budgets for presentation to the Finance Committee and Board of Directors.
  • Oversee all financial reporting activities, providing accurate and up-to-date information on the council's financial activities.
  • Support the Audit Committee, Finance Committee, and other Board Task Groups as necessary.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, federal, and not-for-profit regulations in all financial operations.
  • Administer and control accounting and treasury functions to safeguard the council's assets.
  • Work with the external Investment Manager and Finance Committee on the council's investment portfolio.
  • Provide fiduciary oversight of the council's benefits plans, including the 403(b) Plan.
  • Analyze budgets, financial reports, and trends to assist in decision making and goal execution.
  • Manage physical operations, including council-owned and leased properties, ensuring cost-effective management of assets.
  • Oversee financial and operational audits, identifying opportunities for improved efficiencies.
  • Develop and retain high-performing finance staff, ensuring effective organization and deployment.
  • Collaborate with the CEO and Chief Operating Officer to manage organizational risk and secure adequate insurance coverage.
  • Support the Council's affirmative action plans and commitments to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or business administration; MBA preferred.
  • Minimum of 8 years proven track record as CFO or Controller, preferably in nonprofit organizations.
  • CPA Certification preferred.
  • Minimum of 3 years management/supervisory experience.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to analyze facts and statistics.
  • Ability to initiate ideas and plans, stimulate action, and organize a multifaceted workload.
  • Flexibility and willingness to try new ideas and approaches.
  • Commitment to the aims and purposes of the Girl Scout movement and active GSUSA membership.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in grants management within nonprofit organizations.
