About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Sherman Residential is a pivotal leadership role responsible for overseeing the financial operations of a multifamily real estate investment firm. This position requires a hands-on approach to financial management, including financial reporting, budgeting, cash management, and risk mitigation. The CFO will collaborate closely with various departments to align financial strategies with operational goals, ensuring the company's financial health and regulatory compliance. The role also involves developing key relationships with financial partners and stakeholders, fostering a culture of innovation and high performance within the finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Actively participate in daily financial operations to ensure smooth company functioning.
  • Ensure timely and accurate completion of financial statements, audits, tax returns, and budgets.
  • Manage and optimize cash flow and cash management processes.
  • Establish and nurture relationships with key financial partners, including lenders and investors.
  • Lead the budgeting process in collaboration with the Operations department.
  • Oversee fund audits and ensure compliance with financial reporting standards.
  • Collaborate with insurance brokers to manage comprehensive coverage and mitigate risks.
  • Review and approve critical legal agreements to align with financial interests.
  • Work closely with the Asset Management team to oversee financial performance of properties.
  • Drive shared initiatives with operations leadership to enhance operational performance and financial outcomes.
  • Engage in relationship building with the investor base and lead fundraising efforts.
  • Provide strategic leadership and mentorship to the accounting team.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field; MBA preferred; CPA preferred.
  • 7+ years of experience in real estate accounting and finance, with a focus on multifamily real estate preferred.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Hands-on leadership style with a doer mentality.
  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence and build trust at all levels.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel; familiarity with Yardi preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in private equity or investment management.
  • Strong understanding of regulatory compliance and risk management practices.
