About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the Quileute Tribe is responsible for directing and managing the fiscal reporting functions in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable laws. The CFO provides strategic leadership by collaborating with the General Manager and Tribal Council to establish long-range goals and policies, ensuring effective financial management and compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance.
  • Manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets, and consolidation and reporting to the General Manager and Tribal Council.
  • Provide recommendations to strategically enhance financial performance and business opportunities.
  • Ensure effective internal controls are in place and compliance with GAAP and applicable laws.
  • Review, establish, and administer procedures, systems, and policies governing financial data processing.
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
  • Participate in the development of the Tribe's plan and programs as a strategic partner.
  • Prepare and submit monthly reports certifying accurate financial statements to the General Manager and Tribal Council.
  • Prepare monthly Management, Discussion and Analysis reports outlining the Tribal financial situation and make recommendations.
  • Continually improve the budgeting process through education of department managers on financial issues.
  • Develop credibility for the finance group by providing timely and accurate analysis of budgets and financial trends.
  • Provide strategic financial input and leadership on decision-making issues affecting the organization.
  • Optimize bank and deposit relationships and enhance cash position.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism.
  • Advise on financial perspectives for contracts entered by the Quileute Tribe.
  • Evaluate the Tribe's finances and plan for continual improvement and efficiency.
  • Oversee and coordinate the annual external audit process.
  • Oversee and coordinate the indirect cost proposal process.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or related field from an accredited university.
  • Minimum of eight (8) years of experience as CFO or equivalent.
  • Preference for candidates with an MBA in Finance.
  • Licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or five (5) years of Tribal and Governmental accounting experience.
  • Exceptional computer skills, including Microsoft Office and MIP accounting software.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and leadership skills.

Nice-to-haves

  • Certified Management Accountant (CMA) certification.
  • Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO) certification.
