About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at the University of Minnesota's College of Liberal Arts (CLA) plays a pivotal role in developing and implementing financial strategies that align with the college's academic goals. The CFO oversees budget planning, fiscal administration, and space management while providing financial guidance to leadership. Reporting directly to the Dean, the CFO is integral to the Dean's Group, contributing to various decisions related to curriculum, human resources, development, and outreach.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the development, implementation, and assessment of the college's financial strategies.
  • Analyze, interpret, and communicate financial performance information to senior leadership.
  • Research revenue opportunities and economic trends, conducting financial modeling and assessments.
  • Work closely with CLA Human Resources to align fiscal and HR strategies.
  • Oversee the collegiate budget and planning process, including preparing the annual budget and resource allocation.
  • Develop and implement financial management policies and procedures for day-to-day operations.
  • Deliver education and consultation to department chairs regarding budget management and planning.
  • Lead annual evaluation and continuous improvement of CLA financial operations.
  • Foster a collaborative workplace environment and engage in transparent communication.
  • Oversee the college's space and facilities to support CLA's mission.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree plus 12 years of fiscal and management experience.
  • Supervisory experience in a financial context.
  • Ability to formulate and implement financial strategies.
  • Excellent computer skills with experience in electronic financial systems.
  • Innovative thinking in financial management and resource allocation.
  • Experience working with diverse populations in a large organization.
  • Knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion principles.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
