About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at San Francisco Bay University (SFBU) plays a crucial role in overseeing the financial management and business operations of the university. Reporting directly to the university president, the CFO serves as a strategic advisor to the leadership team, ensuring financial stability and compliance with regulations. The position involves developing long-range financial plans, managing budgets, and providing financial analysis to support decision-making. The CFO is also responsible for risk management and compliance functions, making this role integral to the university's mission of providing affordable, quality education.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain long-range financial plans.
  • Collaborate closely with the president, president's cabinet, and division leaders to align strategic, operational, and financial planning.
  • Provide financial analysis and support to the university's leadership.
  • Serve as liaison to the Finance and Investment Committee, Audit Committee, of the Board of Directors.
  • Develop the finance and accounting team by determining key roles and recruiting top talent.
  • Implement and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure financial stability.
  • Ensure financial internal controls are in place.
  • Oversee management of the university's financial systems, including the general ledger.
  • Oversee the preparation of financial statements and reports.
  • Manage the university's budgeting process and cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Oversee preparation for external audits and address findings.
  • Coordinate with the chief operating officer in managing the university's real estate asset portfolio.
  • Participate in professional development to maintain current knowledge and skills.
  • Supervise the Compliance Officer and Controller.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial management, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior management or executive role.
  • Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite and Google mail.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or Sage Intacct.
