About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Water Mission is responsible for directing the fiscal functions of the organization in alignment with accounting principles and nonprofit financial management practices. This role involves overseeing the Financial Services division, which includes finance, accounting, payroll, compliance, risk management, procurement, and supply chain. The CFO will work closely with the CEO and other senior executives to provide strategic financial input and ensure the organization's financial health while maintaining a strong Christian witness and servant leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Direct the fiscal functions of the ministry in accordance with generally accepted accounting principles.
  • Oversee the Financial Services division, including finance, accounting, payroll, compliance, risk management, procurement, and supply chain.
  • Plan, develop, organize, implement, direct, and evaluate the organization's fiscal function and performance.
  • Participate in developing the ministry's plans and programs as a strategic partner.
  • Evaluate and advise on the impact of long-range planning and new programs/strategies.
  • Develop and monitor timely and accurate analysis of budgets and financial reports.
  • Enhance and implement policies and procedures to improve operational effectiveness.
  • Establish credibility throughout the organization as a developer of solutions to business challenges.
  • Develop and implement risk management strategies for financial risks, especially in international operations.
  • Provide technical financial advice and knowledge to others within the financial discipline.
  • Improve the budgeting process by educating department managers on financial issues.
  • Provide strategic financial input on decisions affecting the organization.
  • Optimize bank and deposit relationships to enhance cash position.
  • Develop a reliable cash flow projection process and reporting mechanism.
  • Advise on financial perspectives for contracts entered by the corporation.
  • Leverage financial technology to streamline operations and increase efficiency.
  • Evaluate the Financial Services division structure for continual improvement.
  • Provide leadership and growth opportunities within the Financial Services division.

Requirements

  • Personal and growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

  • Minimum 15+ years of experience in a senior level finance role, preferably in international and nonprofit sectors.
  • Advanced skills with MS Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, SharePoint).
  • Minimum three years of experience with an Enterprise Resource Planning system (NetSuite preferred) and a forecasting system (Workday Adaptive preferred).
