About the position

As the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Pulse Biosciences, you will play a pivotal role in shaping the financial landscape of a company dedicated to health innovation. Working closely with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), you will serve as a strategic partner, providing operational leadership and business guidance that is essential for the company's growth and success. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide range of financial and administrative functions, ensuring that the company has the necessary financial infrastructure to support its ambitious goals. You will be instrumental in driving the strategy for investor relations and exploring external partnership opportunities, thereby enhancing the company's market position. In this role, you will direct and oversee all aspects of the company's Finance, Treasury, Tax, Accounting, Internal Controls, Financial Reporting, and SEC Compliance. You will represent the company to the investment community, managing relationships with shareholders, potential investors, banks, security analysts, and regulatory agencies. Your leadership will be crucial in evaluating commercial relationships, joint ventures, and mergers & acquisitions, as well as in leading capital raising and corporate financing efforts. You will also be responsible for short and long-range financial planning, ensuring that the company maintains strong financial controls and compliance with corporate governance requirements. Your impact will extend to managing the company's cash and investments, banking relationships, and tax strategy. You will lead the creation of scalable processes and systems that support the commercial organization, manage the financial statement audit process, and report financial results to the board of directors. Additionally, you will provide oversight and leadership to the finance and administrative team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement. Your role will also involve hiring, developing, and motivating a high-performing team, driving a performance-based culture with high accountability.

Responsibilities

  • Direct and oversee all aspects of the company's Finance, Treasury, Tax, Accounting, Internal Controls, Financial Reporting and SEC Compliance.
  • Represent the Company to the investment community, including oversight of Investor Relations.
  • Work with the CEO and Executive Team to help assess commercial relationships, joint ventures and mergers & acquisitions.
  • Lead evaluation, analysis, and execution of capital raising and corporate financing.
  • Lead the short and long-range financial planning and policies, accounting practices and procedures.
  • Partner with CEO, Board, and Executive Team in strategic planning and shareholder value creation.
  • Play an active role in corporate development and commercial expansion, with responsibility for financial forecasts and analysis.
  • Assure that company maintains strong financial controls, and infrastructure to support growth.
  • Ensure compliance in corporate governance requirements, security exchange, financial/tax reporting and applicable regulatory laws.
  • Manage company's cash and investments, banking relationships, insurance, tax strategy and compliance.
  • Lead creation of robust, fully-scalable processes and systems supporting commercial organization.
  • Manage the financial statement audit process, working with the external auditors, and the relationship with the Audit Committee.
  • Represent the company within the financial and business communities with the CEO.
  • Report financial results to the board of directors and risk issues to the audit committee of the board of directors.
  • Provide oversight and leadership to the finance and administrative team, fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
  • Hire, develop, and motivate a high-performing financial and administrative team.

Requirements

  • Proven leadership experience at the C-level and/or Board level required.
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance or related field, MBA strongly preferred.
  • CPA required.
  • Successful track record as a CFO or SVP in a publicly listed, commercial-stage, high growth company within the medical device or life science industry.
  • Experience leading Investor Relations, with positive relationships within the investment community.
  • Prior experience in support of mergers and acquisitions, licensing and joint venturing a plus.
  • Results driven and visionary leadership.
  • Strategic finance leader with deep industry and commercial experience and a track record of success within the life sciences sector.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully raise capital to support company growth while maximizing shareholder value within a public company.
  • Deep understanding of financial models and understanding of financial concepts.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to effectively motivate through open communication and teamwork.
  • Demonstrated ability to hire top talent, manage and mentor a successful organization.
  • Outstanding oral, written communication skills and strong presentation skills.
  • Strong & effective negotiating skills.
  • Strong business acumen and use of business analytics to prioritize, lead and influence.
  • Exceptional time management skills.
  • Strong sense of urgency and responsiveness to all levels of the organization.
  • Proficient knowledge and skill in Microsoft Office Suite applications.
