About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) is a pivotal member of the executive leadership team, directly reporting to the CEO. This role encompasses the comprehensive oversight of the company's financial management, which includes financial planning and analysis, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, tax, and risk management. The CFO is instrumental in shaping the financial strategy of the organization, ensuring its long-term financial health and sustainability. The ideal candidate will possess hands-on experience as a former Controller, demonstrating a willingness to engage in the operational aspects of the role while also possessing a visionary outlook for the CFO position within a dynamic small company. In terms of financial strategy and planning, the CFO will be responsible for financial reporting and analysis, ensuring that the company’s financial data is accurate and timely. The role also involves accounting and control, where the CFO will oversee the integrity of financial records and compliance with accounting standards. Treasury and cash management are critical components of this position, requiring the CFO to manage the company’s liquidity and financial risk effectively. Additionally, the CFO will handle tax compliance and risk management, identifying and assessing financial risks and developing strategies to mitigate them. This includes managing the 401k administration relationship, ensuring compliance and oversight. Leadership and team management are essential, as the CFO will be tasked with developing staff and supporting the accounting manager during the annual review and workers' compensation audit process. The role also involves payroll support and oversight of the sales commissions program, ensuring compliance and accuracy. The CFO will be expected to drive technology and process improvements within the financial operations of the company, enhancing efficiency and effectiveness in financial management.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the company's financial management including financial planning and analysis, accounting, budgeting, forecasting, treasury, tax, and risk management.
  • Shape the company's financial strategy and ensure long-term financial health and sustainability.
  • Identify and assess financial risks facing the company and develop strategies to mitigate these risks.
  • Manage the 401k administration relationship including oversight and compliance/administration.
  • Support the accounting manager with the annual review and workers' compensation audit process, ensuring compliance with audit requirements.
  • Support payroll processes and 401k plan activity and reporting as needed.
  • Oversee and audit the sales commissions program.
  • Drive technology and process improvements within financial operations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting, or equivalent combination of educational and professional work experience.
  • CPA strongly preferred or MBA.
  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in progressively responsible financial management positions.
  • Proven track record of success in senior financial leadership roles.
  • Previous experience in public accounting highly valued.
  • Strong understanding of financial principles, accounting standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Excellent analytical, strategic planning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, board members, and external stakeholders.
  • Strong leadership and team management skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate others.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, and ethical conduct.
  • Strong technical accounting skills with the ability to relate to non-accounting colleagues.
  • Very strong attention to detail.
  • Skill in preparing and delivering detailed verbal and written presentations.
  • Ability to analyze financial information and suggest solutions for betterment.
  • Ability to work independently, with remote supervisory support.
  • Ability to think conceptually and manage time efficiently.
