About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at San Francisco Bay University (SFBU) is a key executive role responsible for the financial management and business operations of the university. Reporting directly to the university president, the CFO serves as a strategic advisor to the leadership team, overseeing financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, and risk management. The position plays a crucial role in aligning financial strategies with the university's mission of providing inclusive and innovative education while ensuring financial stability and adherence to regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain long-range financial plans.
  • Collaborate with the president and division leaders to align strategic, operational, and financial planning.
  • Provide financial analysis and support to the university's leadership.
  • Serve as liaison to the Finance and Investment Committee and Audit Committee of the Board of Directors.
  • Develop the finance and accounting team by recruiting and retaining top talent.
  • Implement and maintain financial policies and procedures to ensure financial stability.
  • Ensure financial internal controls are in place.
  • Oversee management of the university's financial systems, including the general ledger.
  • Prepare financial statements and reports, including monthly, quarterly, and annual statements.
  • Manage the university's budgeting process and cash flow.
  • Ensure compliance with laws and regulations, including tax laws and financial reporting requirements.
  • Oversee preparation for external audits and address findings.
  • Coordinate with the chief operating officer on financial planning for capital projects and real estate assets.
  • Oversee risk management and compliance efforts.
  • Participate in professional development to maintain knowledge and skills.
  • Supervise the Compliance Officer and Controller.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, or a related field.
  • 10+ years of experience in financial management, preferably in a higher education setting.
  • 5+ years of experience in a senior management or executive role.
  • Technical fluency with Microsoft Office Professional Suite and Google mail and calendaring programs.

Nice-to-haves

  • Master's degree in finance, accounting, or related field.
  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience with Salesforce and/or Sage Intacct.
  • Experience in departmental development.

  • Competitive salary range of $240,000 - $280,000 depending on experience.
