About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for the St. Landry Parish School System is responsible for overseeing the financial operations and transactions of the school system. This role requires a comprehensive understanding of financial planning, accounting, and auditing processes, ensuring compliance with state laws and regulations. The CFO will initiate and direct efficient procedures for the coordination of financial planning, preparing detailed documents that analyze the material and personnel needs of the school system, translating these needs into costs and revenue requirements. The goal is to maximize the utilization of all available resources in an optimal cost manner. In addition to financial planning, the CFO will establish and maintain accurate accounting, auditing, and reporting policies for all financial activities. This includes preparing the formal budget document for submission to the St. Landry Parish School Board and the Louisiana Department of Education, as well as preparing reports and documents pertinent to the financial operations of the school district. The CFO will also oversee the requisitioning, purchasing, receiving, and maintaining of all inventoried materials and supplies necessary for the operation of the school system, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local laws. The CFO will supervise and evaluate all reports under the jurisdiction of the office, prepare and submit required local, state, regional, and national forms and reports, and meet with individuals and groups to discuss and interpret the financial aspects of the School Board functions. This position also involves providing consultation and assistance to school personnel regarding budget estimates and aiding in financial matters related to major construction and renovation projects. The CFO will maintain effective procedures for the investment of inactive and accrued funds, ensuring the greatest return within the laws of the State of Louisiana. The role requires strong leadership skills, as the CFO will supervise various departments, including the Sales Tax Office, Central Office Accounting Department, and Child Nutrition Department. The CFO will also enter into a goals and objectives agreement with the Superintendent of Schools, conducting needs assessments to prioritize areas of focus. This position is critical in ensuring the financial health and accountability of the St. Landry Parish School System, with performance evaluated according to the board's policy on Evaluation of Personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Initiate and direct efficient procedures for financial planning of the school corporation.
  • Prepare and submit a detailed written document analyzing material and personnel needs of the parish school system.
  • Establish and maintain accurate accounting, auditing, and reporting policies for financial activities.
  • Prepare the formal budget document for submission to the St. Landry Parish School Board and Louisiana Department of Education.
  • Prepare reports, documents, and charts related to the financial operation of the school district.
  • Maintain procedures for requisitioning, purchasing, receiving, and maintaining inventoried materials and supplies.
  • Ensure accurate preparation and payment of all employees and effectuate payroll deductions.
  • Establish procedures for the investment of inactive and accrued funds for maximum return.
  • Provide consultation and assistance to school personnel for budget estimates.
  • Aid in financial matters related to major construction and renovation projects.
  • Supervise and evaluate reports under the jurisdiction of the office.
  • Prepare and submit required local, state, regional, and national forms and reports.
  • Meet with individuals and groups to discuss financial aspects of the School Board functions.
  • Establish and maintain procedures for evaluating objectives and plans of the Chief Financial Officer.
  • Supervise, direct, assist, and evaluate departments assigned to this office.
  • Enter into a goals and objectives agreement with the Superintendent of Schools after conducting a needs assessment.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must hold a baccalaureate degree from a nationally accredited institution of higher learning.
  • Certified Public Accountant Licensed in Louisiana.
  • Experience with accounting software (Alio).
  • A minimum of three years successful experience in office management and finance, accounting and/or auditing.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $94,650 - $115,000
  • Twelve (12) months term of employment
