About the position

Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services is seeking a seasoned Chief Financial Officer (CFO) to lead the financial operations of the agency and ensure its financial health, strategic growth, and sustainability. This role is crucial as the organization navigates healthcare reimbursement shifts toward value-based care contracting. The new CFO will be responsible for managing the agency's budget of over $85 million and will work closely with the CEO, COO, and Board of Directors to develop and implement sound financial strategies that align with the organization's vision and goals. The ideal candidate will have demonstrable experience in managing multiple complex funding streams and will oversee all financial functions, including accounting operations, financial reporting, budgeting, compliance, risk management, and contract negotiations. The successful candidate will be a collaborative leader who can effectively manage the financial and administrative needs of the organization. This includes fostering strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including board members, auditors, government agencies, and external consultants. The CFO will report directly to the CEO and will manage a team of over 55 employees, including 5 direct reports overseeing Finance, Accounting, Facilities, Billing, Revenue Management, Office Support, and Information Technology teams. The position requires a strategic partner/advisor approach to implement the agency's 3-year strategic plan and ensure transparency regarding financial performance through regular reporting to the Board of Directors and relevant committees. In addition to leading financial operations, the CFO will be responsible for creating sustainable funding streams, managing accounting staff to ensure timely and accurate financial statements, and maintaining compliance with legal requirements. The role also involves advising management on potential risks and adverse actions, ensuring that the Information Technology department meets the agency's needs, and maintaining high standards for cybersecurity. Responsibilities

  • Serve as a strategic partner/advisor to the CEO & COO in the implementation of the 3-year strategic plan.
  • Ensure full transparency regarding the financial performance of the agency through regular reporting to the Board of Directors and relevant committees.
  • Provide leadership on financial/investment decisions and planning affecting the organization, including investment prioritization and sustainable funding models.
  • Lead Finance, Accounting, IT, Office Support, Revenue Management, and Facilities teams, fostering a service mindset to support program staff.
  • Manage accounting staff to ensure monthly and annual financial statements are completed accurately and on time, in accordance with GAAP.
  • Cultivate and manage relationships with board members, banks, funders, government agencies, and other stakeholders.
  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local legal requirements by researching legislation and regulations, consulting with outside advisors, and filing required reports.
  • Advise management of adverse actions and potential risks.
  • Ensure that the Information Technology department meets agency needs and complies with regulatory requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance required; MBA preferred.
  • 10+ years of CFO experience leading financial planning and analysis, management reporting, and accounting functions.
  • Experience working in healthcare and/or the non-profit sector is a strong plus.
  • Experience with government contracting requirements and reimbursement methods is highly desirable.
  • Experience working with commercial payers and value-based care contracting is desirable.
  • Strong communication, collaboration, influencing, and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent leadership and mentoring abilities with a commitment to fostering an equitable, inclusive, and diverse environment.
  • Sensitivity to a diverse workforce and client population with lived experience.
