About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) plays a crucial role in steering the strategic direction of the Credit Union, reporting directly to the CEO. This position is responsible for directing the financial affairs of the Credit Union, ensuring that all financial practices align with accepted accounting principles and comply with federal and state laws. The CFO will oversee the Accounting/Finance and Risk and Compliance Departments, maintaining robust accounting systems, practices, controls, and procedures. As a team builder, the CFO will hire, train, and mentor staff within the Accounting and Risk and Compliance Departments, conducting performance reviews and guiding employees to achieve their best. The CFO will also serve as a strategic partner, actively participating in the Credit Union's Asset Liability Committee (ALCO) and playing a key role in shaping strategic and business plans. This includes establishing yearly financial objectives that align with the Credit Union's growth plans and using forward-thinking models and analyses to provide financial insights that drive growth. In addition to strategic planning, the CFO will manage the annual budget, prepare and present monthly financial reports, and oversee net worth and forecast analysis. The role requires a strong focus on compliance, ensuring adherence to all relevant laws and regulations, and coordinating audit activities with both internal and external auditors. The CFO will also act as the main contact with investment houses, financial institutions, and government agencies, exploring new investment opportunities and providing recommendations. The position demands a tech-savvy individual who can supervise the creation of reports, implement software, and develop tools for budgeting and forecasting. The CFO will ensure the accuracy of all financial and statistical reports for the Board of Directors and take on additional duties as assigned, contributing dynamically to the Credit Union's mission and vision.

Responsibilities

  • Hire, train, and mentor the Accounting and Risk and Compliance Departments.
  • Conduct performance reviews and recommend salary adjustments.
  • Be an active member of the Credit Union's Asset Liability Committee (ALCO).
  • Shape strategic and business plans using financial insights.
  • Establish yearly financial objectives that align with growth plans.
  • Oversee net worth and forecast analysis.
  • Analyze financial performance, liquidity, cash flow, budget, and cost control.
  • Manage the annual budget and prepare monthly financial reports.
  • Review policies and procedures, recommend changes, and develop new ones.
  • Act as the main contact with investment houses and financial institutions.
  • Explore new investment opportunities and provide recommendations.
  • Supervise the creation of reports and software implementation for budgeting and forecasting.
  • Oversee the preparation and communication of financial statements.
  • Ensure the accuracy of all financial and statistical reports for the Board of Directors.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws and regulations.
  • Coordinate audit activities with internal and external auditors.
  • Take on other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance or accounting required.
  • MBA is a plus.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • Minimum five years of CFO experience in the financial services industry.
  • Excellent analytical, reasoning, and problem-solving skills.
  • Significant experience with budgets, forecasting, analysis, asset/liability management, and investments.
  • Strong ability to manage multiple projects with multiple deadlines.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, confidence, and executive presence.
  • Professional written and verbal communication skills.
  • Excellent collaborative skills and the ability to build positive working relationships.
  • Understanding of the Credit Union's mission and vision.
