About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Keller Independent School District is responsible for overseeing all financial and business affairs of the District. This leadership role involves ensuring effective management practices, directing the investment of District funds, and serving as the chief financial advisor to the Superintendent and Board of Trustees. The CFO will also play a crucial role in maintaining the integrity of financial records and reports, developing budgets, and ensuring compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure preparation and integrity of all District general accounting records and related financial reports.
  • Develop long-range and short-term objectives for District's business operations and prepare District budget.
  • Act as financial advisor to the Superintendent of Schools and Board of Trustees.
  • Maintain the District's investment portfolio.
  • Supervise and coordinate the investment of all available funds to protect them against loss.
  • Ensure timely payment of all financial obligations of the District.
  • Implement and maintain internal control procedures for safeguarding assets and ensuring reliability of accounting data.
  • Oversee the auditing program for all District funds and cooperate with auditors.
  • Administer the business office budget and ensure cost-effective program management.
  • Develop training options and improvement plans for department staff.
  • Evaluate job performance of employees to ensure effectiveness.
  • Select, train, evaluate, and retain high-quality finance professionals.
  • Attend Board of Trustees meetings and maintain professional relationships with stakeholders.
  • Compile, maintain, and file all required reports and documents.
  • Implement policies established by federal and state law and local Board Policy.
  • Pursue professional development activities for self and staff.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Business, Accounting, or related field.
  • 3 years administrative or management experience.
  • 3 years supervisory responsibility in finance or accounting.

Nice-to-haves

  • School district experience in budgeting, finance, and payroll (preferred).
  • Master's degree in a business-related field or educational administration (preferred).
