About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at The Food Bank for Central & Northeast Missouri is a pivotal role within the organization, serving as a key member of the Executive Team. This position is designed for a highly collaborative individual who will help navigate the changing financial landscape, ensuring that the organization can effectively utilize its resources to feed neighbors both now and in the future. The CFO will play a crucial role in planning the strategic direction of the organization, working closely with various teams to align financial strategies with the mission of improving food security in the community. In this role, the CFO will be responsible for maintaining a computerized bookkeeping system, ensuring timely and accurate financial statements, and overseeing bank reconciliations. The position requires a strong understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and not-for-profit accounting, as well as the ability to maintain bookkeeping records in accordance with IRS guidelines. The CFO will also manage budgets and provide detailed reports to the President and CEO, Board of Directors, Executive Team, Development Team, and Grants Department. Additionally, the CFO will supervise the Director of Finance and the Director of Foundation Relations and Grants, providing guidance and support to the Grants Department. This role will involve idea generation and revenue stream development to support the mission of The Food Bank, as well as managing the organization’s insurance needs and serving as the primary liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors. The CFO will also lead annual audit preparation efforts and work with CPA firms as directed, ensuring compliance and best practices in financial reporting for government contracts.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain computerized bookkeeping system including industry specific accounting software
  • Provide timely and accurate financial statements
  • Proficient in bank reconciliation
  • Maintain bookkeeping records in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Practices and IRS guidelines
  • Maintain fund balance accounts for restricted funds
  • Maintain budgets and provide reports for President and CEO, Board of Directors, Executive Team, Development Team, and Grants Department
  • Serve as the liaison with all banks and vendors with Food Bank accounts
  • Lead annual audit preparation efforts and work with CPA firm as directed
  • Handle all financial reporting for Government contracts
  • Play an active role in the Executive Team for The Food Bank
  • Supervise Director of Finance and Director of Foundation Relations and Grants
  • Provide guidance and support for the Grants Department
  • Provide idea generation and revenue stream development to support the mission of The Food Bank
  • Manage the Commercial and D&O Insurance needs of The Food Bank serving as the liaison between The Food Bank, applicable insurance companies and broker
  • Be the primary liaison to the Finance Committee of the Board of Directors
  • Utilize external resources to assist in guiding best practices
  • Provide oversight for the annual budget and investment portfolio for The Food Bank

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in accounting
  • CPA certification preferred or equivalent work experience in auditing or accounting
  • Highly organized and detail oriented
  • Familiar with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and not-for-profit accounting
  • Possess supervisory experience
  • Proficient in computer skills including Windows, Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
  • Willing to work with industry specific accounting software and database
  • Ability to work with a variety of people
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
