About the position

The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of Columbus ISD is responsible for overseeing all financial and business affairs of the district. This role involves providing leadership for the district's financial services, ensuring effective management practices, and serving as the chief financial advisor to the superintendent and board of trustees. The CFO will direct the management and investment of district funds, ensuring they are adequately protected and utilized effectively.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure preparation and integrity of all district general accounting records and related financial reports.
  • Develop long-range and short-term objectives for district's business operations and prepare district budget.
  • Act as financial advisor to the superintendent and board of trustees and keep them informed of the financial condition of the district.
  • Maintain the district's investment portfolio and supervise the investment of all available funds.
  • Ensure timely payment of all financial obligations of the school district.
  • Implement and maintain internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure reliability of accounting data.
  • Oversee the auditing program for all district funds and work with independent and internal auditors.
  • Administer the business office budget and ensure cost-effective program management.
  • Classify, record, and summarize numerical and financial data to maintain financial records.
  • Prepare financial statements, balance sheets, and other reports.
  • Monitor and reconcile expenditures with budget availability.
  • Set up and maintain account controls, logs, and files.
  • Perform cost accounting activities and bank reconciliations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, or related field.
  • 3 years administrative or management experience.
  • 3 years experience with supervisory responsibility in finance or accounting.
  • Advanced knowledge of school finance, budgeting, accounting systems, and economics.
  • Knowledge of information/data processing systems and financial applications.
  • Ability to resolve conflict and respond to concerns effectively.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills and ability to manage budget and personnel.
  • Ability to implement policy and procedures and interpret data.
  • Excellent communication, public relations, and interpersonal skills.
