About the position

HiFiBiO Therapeutics is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Chief Financial Officer (CFO) who can adapt quickly in a highly collaborative, fast-paced environment. The CFO will play a critical role in driving strategy and financial operations within the organization. The ideal candidate will have a successful track record in both external-facing investor relations activities and internal-facing financial planning and analysis activities, ensuring compliance with financial reporting requirements. As a member of the executive leadership team, the CFO will be accountable for financial decision-making, investment advice, and guidance, including at the Board of Directors level. This position will operate across global financial operations, including the U.S., China, and France, and will assess financial implications for strategic decisions while partnering with business development to identify growth opportunities. Experience with IPOs is highly desirable. The CFO will be responsible for optimizing the organization's fundraising plans and capital structure by leading financing efforts through private investments or public offerings. This includes strategizing ways to secure capital for research, development, and growth. The role also involves overseeing global financial strategy, long-term budgetary planning, and cost management in alignment with the company's strategic objectives. The CFO will decide on investment strategies by considering cash, equity, and liquidity risks, and will provide timely and accurate financial reports, analysis, and decision support to the CEO, Board of Directors, and management team on various financial matters. In addition, the CFO will ensure that cash flow is appropriate for the organization's research and development and operations, while also ensuring financial controls, compliance, and timely and accurate financial reporting consistent with US GAAP and other regulatory requirements. The role requires evaluating and consistently improving financial systems, processes, and policies to maximize return on investment. The CFO will lead a team of finance personnel, including controllers, accountants, and financial analysts, and will provide active, hands-on leadership as a member of the executive leadership team, proactively communicating and developing talent across the global organization.

Responsibilities

  • Optimize the organization's fundraising plans and capital structure by leading financing efforts, through private investments or public offerings.
  • Oversee global financial strategy, long-term budgetary planning, and cost management in alignment with the company's strategic objectives.
  • Decide on investment strategies by considering cash, equity, and liquidity risks.
  • Provide timely and accurate financial reports, analysis, and decision support to the CEO, Board of Directors, and management team on investment, cost, forecasting, resource allocation, and other decisions for organizational financial health.
  • Ensure cash flow is appropriate for the organization's research & development and operations.
  • Ensure financial controls, compliance, and timely and accurate financial reporting, consistent with US GAAP, state, and local reporting requirements and regulatory authorities.
  • Evaluate and consistently improve financial systems, processes, and policies to fit current needs and maximize return on investment.
  • Lead team of finance personnel (controllers, accountants, financial analysts, etc.).
  • Provide active, hands-on leadership as a member of the executive leadership team by proactively communicating and developing talent across the global organization.

Requirements

  • 10+ years in progressively responsible financial leadership roles having demonstrated global finance, accounting, and team leadership experience in biological sciences or other health-related fields.
  • Proven experience as CFO, finance officer or relevant role, with executive presence and ability to successfully interact at the Board of Director level.
  • Ability to build trust with the investment community by engaging with and influencing key investors and potential partners.
  • Successful track record in corporate finance, capital market access, valuation, fundraising, and corporate accounting.
  • Experienced in clinical trial forecasting, critical analysis, and long-term financial outcome evaluation.
  • In-depth knowledge of corporate financial law and risk management practices.
  • Excellent knowledge of data analysis and forecasting methods.
  • Strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Excellent communications, people skills, and ability to motivate and inspire people and teams globally.
  • Experience having led the financial analysis and due diligence process for a successful initial public offering (IPO) preferred.
  • BSc/BA in Accounting, Finance or relevant field; MSc/MBA or CPA is preferred.
