The Chief Financial Officer (CFO) at Taft ISD is responsible for overseeing all financial and business affairs of the district. This role requires providing leadership for the district's financial services to ensure that management practices are legally sound and effective. The CFO will direct and monitor the management and investment of all district funds, ensuring they are adequately protected. As the chief financial advisor and budget advisor to the superintendent and board of trustees, the CFO plays a critical role in maintaining the financial health of the district. In this position, the CFO will ensure the preparation and integrity of all district general accounting records and related financial reports, adhering to accepted standards for school accounting as prescribed by the Texas Education Agency. The CFO will develop both long-range and short-term objectives for the district's business operations and prepare the district budget, monitoring budget variances and overseeing necessary adjustments. Additionally, the CFO will act as a financial advisor to the superintendent and board of trustees, keeping them informed of the district's financial condition. The role also involves maintaining the district's investment portfolio, supervising the investment of all available funds, and ensuring that these funds are protected against loss. The CFO will ensure that all financial obligations of the school district, including accounts payable, notes payable, bonded indebtedness, and payroll, are met in a timely manner. Implementing and maintaining internal control procedures to safeguard assets and ensure the reliability of accounting data is also a key responsibility. The CFO will oversee the auditing program for all district funds and work cooperatively with both independent and internal auditors. In addition to financial management, the CFO will review and recommend appropriate policies and administrative practices, compile and maintain required reports and records, and ensure compliance with federal and state laws. The position also includes personnel management responsibilities, such as selecting, training, evaluating, and supervising department staff. The CFO will attend board meetings and make presentations as needed, contributing to the overall governance of the district.
